What Is The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team?
The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team is an interactive and engaging experience that helps professionals and their organizations discover what it takes to build a truly cohesive and effective team. The Five Behaviors profile, which provides both individual and team feedback, is grounded in the model described in The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, the internationally best-selling leadership fable by Patrick Lencioni. With this program, participants will learn how they – as a team – score on the key components of the model: Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability, and Results.
The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team assessment includes two types of questions:
- Those designed to determine DiSC® style
- Those designed to evaluate how frequently the team engages in the five behaviors
The responses are integrated into a single report that reflects both the individual’s style preferences and the team’s evaluation of its performance on the five behaviors. Each person receives an individual report.
Who Is The Program Designed For?
The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team assessment and accompanying material is designed for an intact team.
But what’s a team?
In this context, a team is a relatively small number of people (typically from three to twelve) who meet on a regular basis and are collectively responsible for results. The team members share common goals as well as the rewards and responsibilities for achieving them.
Not every group is a team.
For example, a collection of people who report to the same manager but have relatively little interdependence and mutual accountability would likely not fit the description of a team. If a group does not meet the criteria of a true team, The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team might not be appropriate.
Product Development & Assessment Validation
The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team has already been used by more than 300 teams and over 3,500 team members. This program is the culmination of a decades-long development effort with Patrick Lencioni. While most assessments in our industry are tested just for internal reliability, The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team goes much further. This assessment has been refined through the examination of things like test-retest (the stability of the tool), the correlations with other respected instruments, the correlations with outside observer ratings, and the correlations with actual work behavior. Through the analysis of all this in-depth information, The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team was extensively tested and refined, resulting in the most accurate assessment possible.
Patrick Lencioni describes the difference between vulnerability-based trust and predictive trust and explains why trust is so foundational for cohesive teams:
